There’s never been a better time to be a fan of video games. Many great titles were released in 2022, including Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok. Next year’s slate of games looks just as promising. Here’s a look at some of the many new releases gaming fans are excited about.
Tears of the Kingdom
Breath of the Wild, a Nintendo Switch game, was recently voted the best video game ever made. Its upcoming sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, has some big boots to fill. In September 2022, it was confirmed that the official release date is May 12, 2023.
Tears of the Kingdom will be an open-world game similar to Breath of the Wild. Naturally, as a sequel, it will build on the original game, including most, if not all, of the same features and introducing some new ones. Fans are particularly keen to see how the story pans out and explore the floating islands that weren’t in the original.
Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is set in J. K. Rowling’s hugely successful Wizarding World in the 1890s. It includes some well-known characters, along with lots of new ones. You play as a fifth-year Hogwarts student who’s new to the school and is connected with an ancient secret that threatens the Wizarding World.
Hogwarts Legacy lets you explore Hogwarts castle, attend classes, cast spells, care for magical creatures and develop friendships with other characters. The game has three release dates: February 10 for PS5, Windows, and Xbox X/S; April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One; and July 25 for the Nintendo Switch.
Final Fantasy 16
The sixteenth instalment in the Final Fantasy series will come out on June 22, 2023. It will be a timed exclusive for the PS5 for six months. Once this period is over, the game may become available on other consoles, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
The action role-playing game will segment open-world environments and use an action-based combat system. You play as Clive Rosfield and explore the world of Valisthea, encountering monsters and getting tangled up in the conflict between Valisthea’s six nations. There’s also the matter of stopping the Blight, which threatens the nations and everyone living in them.
Resident Evil 4
This survival horror game is a remake of the 2005 game of the same name. It will have the same story, so you’re rescuing the president’s daughter from a Spanish village home to a violent, parasite-worshipping cult. Set for a March 24, 2023 release, the game will improve on the original by having new features, enhanced graphics and better performance.

The game takes place twenty years after this war, though the two factions aren’t exactly peaceful with each other.
